Background Catenin beta-1, also called CTNNB1, is a cytoplasm and nucleus protein of the beta-catenin family. CTNNB1 is a key component of the cadherin cell-cell adhesion system that serves important roles in cell development, differentiation, maintenance of normal tissue architecture, and when dysregulated contributes to tumor invasion and metastasis. The mutations and overexpression of CTNNB1 are associated with many cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, lung cancer, malignant breast tumors, ovarian and endometrial cancer. CTNNB1 is involved in signal transduction through the Wnt pathway, and is widely expressed in many tissues.11
